Twenty-Eight years ago when I was in second grade I wrote a story about a family of classroom rulers. As in measuring sticks. Our school district was having a creative writing contest for the elementary schools and my teacher, the lovely Mrs. Minor, submitted my story. Here is the anthology of stories.I vaguely remember attending some sort of evening event with my Mom and for the life of me I can't remember if they awarded 1st or 2nd place, or if everyone who was in the book was considered a winner.
I do remember that I received this book. Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever as some sort of prize. I'm not sure what happened to my copy but I have since purchased the book for my girls and they love it. They also love this one, Cars and Trucks and Things That Go
It occurred to me when I found this booklet the other day that my daughter is now the same age that I was when I wrote this story. Ryann has a great imagination and writes nice little stories in class, so who knows? Maybe she will have a blog of her own someday?
Now for your reading pleasure I present to you "The Measuring Family".
