The Joy of Shuffle #1

Isn't it fair to say that the music on a person's iPod can tell you a lot about them? So the question is... do you want people to know what's on your iPod? I think it might be a lot like starting a blog and actually letting people read it. You're putting yourself out there in a very vulnerable place and you may not like what people say. But I am trying to worry less about what people think and concentrate more on what makes me happy. At this moment I have 4009 songs loaded on my iPod. That, makes me happy. Here are the first 10 songs it plays when I press shuffle. (I reserve the right to skip over all High School Musical and Hannah Montana songs since they really aren't on there for me. I swear.)

1. Some Unholy War ~ Amy Winehouse

I like this song. Really, I am quite fond of this whole album. I wasn't expecting to like Amy Winehouse that much. I had read about her forever on PerezHilton.com before actually listening to the album. Her music was a pleasant surprise for me, her sound is different and I like that. Oh, and unlike Natalie Cole, I feel Amy Winehouse does deserve her Grammy's.

2. Promises in the Dark ~ Pat Benatar

This song reminds me of my senior year of high school. I had an unhealthy preoccupation with a boy who wasn't so nice to me. I always liked the first line. Never again, isn't that what you said? You've been through this before, you swore this time you'd think with your head. That probably is a little more dramatic than it was, but I was 18 and everything was about the drama.

3. South of Sante Fe ~ Brooks & Dunn

This is the point where I will start getting comments on my blog. Yes, I like country music, and on top of that I LOVE Brooks & Dunn. I have seen them in concert five times. I will say that the B&D songs I like best are the ones Ronnie Dunn sings. But if I had to pick a favorite Kix Brooks song this one would be it, it's very smooth. The video for this song is pretty sweet as well. So the cat is out of the bag, let me have it, I can take it.

4. Drawn to the Rhythm ~ Sarah McLachlan

Boy, I'm really not this mellow all the time. I do have some rock on this thing. I love Sarah McLachlan. This is not one of my favorite Sarah songs. It's not I Will Remember You or Good Enough but it's what the iPod chose to play.

5. Anytime ~ Kelly Clarkson

Damn, I'm lame.

6. I Wish it Would Rain ~ The Temptations

You can't really go wrong with The Temptations. Even if I technically live 50 miles outside of Motown it's close enough to love the sound. Great song.

Day in, day out, my tear stained face, pressed against the window pane
My eyes search the skies, desperately for rain
Cause raindrops will hide my teardrops. And no one will ever know
That I'm cryin'... cryin' when I go outside
To the world outside my tears, I refuse to explain. Oh, I wish it would rain

7. A.F.U. (Naturally Wired) ~ Van Halen

I really love Van Halen. To the dismay of many I am a Sammy Hagar-Van Halen fan more than a David Lee Roth-Van Halen fan. I am not ashamed.

8. We Got it Going on ~ Bon Jovi featuring Big & Rich

I'm actually going to see Bon Jovi in concert next Wednesday with my BFF Molly, her Mom Sid, and Molly's soon-to-be 13 year old daughter Kylie. Molly turns 35 on Monday. We went to see Bon Jovi around her 30th birthday as well, it's our thing.

9. Something Happened on the Way to Heaven ~ Phil Collins

See comment under #5.

10. Crazy Little Thing Called Love ~ Queen

Our wedding party actually danced to You're My Best Friend by Queen. I always want to turn up the volume when this song comes on, it's just fun.

So there you have it, my first Shuffle post. Oddly enough not one rap song popped up. My husband really likes Old School rap, and Will Smith, and since our iPod is a family iPod it really has many genres represented. This time you were spared me quoting from Rappers Delight, next time you might not be so lucky.

During a recent shopping trip to the Mall of America, I was flipping through the sales rack at Banana Republic and the Sarah McClachan song "Sweet Surrender" came on. I found myself back in the time when that song was popular and instantly remembering every word. I forgot how good she was.
Great blog post Stacy. I'm so gonna copy ; )

(giggle) you ARE lame. Kelly Clarkson?
:-D Sorry Stace, I couldn't help myself. You are totally cool, as always.

I have all these audiobooks and NPR shows on my iPod and sometimes, somehow, they get mixed in with the music and you go from singing along to Queens of the Stone Age to "This is Audible..." Very disconcerting. ;-)

I'm so glad you're blogging now!

Ryann LOVES Kelly Clarkson. I should have disclaimed her along with HSM and Hannah Montana.
